Manel Esteller, Director of the Josep Carreras Leukemia Research Institute (IJC), ICREA Researcher, and Professor of Genetics at the University of Barcelona, has been recognized by the prestigious Stanford University in the United States, among the 0.001% of researchers with the most significant impact worldwide in all areas of Science.
This feature was reflected in a study recently published in the international journal PLOS Biology and conducted by the Center for Biomedical Sciences, Statistics, Meta-Analysis, and Innovation (METRICS) of this University. The study was conducted on more than 7,000,000 researchers in 175 disciplines worldwide in the last 22 years, regarding the citations of their discoveries, their principal authorship, and their relevance to other scientists.
The authors conclude that Dr. Esteller occupies the 109th position of this ranking and the first position as a biomedical researcher among those who work in Spain. Dr. Manel Esteller’s research focuses on epigenetic mechanisms involved in the onset and progression of human diseases, mainly in cancer. The results of his studies have allowed, in addition to knowing the molecular basis of various pathologies, the development of novel diagnostic tools and new treatments for them.
