Bowling Green, Ohio November 22, 2019 — The Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology (SIOP) and SHRM (Society for Human Resource Management), along with their foundations, announced Wendy’s as one of the winners for the 2019-2020 Human Resource Management (HRM) Impact Award.

The HRM Impact Award is a honor given by SIOP, SHRM, the SHRM Foundation, and the SIOP Foundation that recognizes organizations with outstanding evidence-based HR management practices. The award promotes HR practices and initiatives that have been measured and determined successful through evidence-based, data-driven analyses.

Wendy’s winning project, “Voice of Wendy’s (VOW)” was designed to measure multiple areas of employee engagement with both restaurant employees and employees who work in roles supporting the restaurants. The program helped the company better support over 5,000 restaurants by providing a variety of resources for managers to utilize for interpreting and acting on VOW results.

“With record low unemployment, it is important that we create great restaurant cultures to attract and retain talent,” said Coley O’Brien, Wendy’s Chief People Officer. “The program’s employee engagement results are highly valuable because they are predictive of both bottom-line restaurant results as well as employee turnover. The Voice of Wendy’s program is a business tool that helps us measure and improve the engagement of our most critical resource – our people.”

A video statement from Wendy’s about the award can be found on the SIOP YouTube channel.
Goldman Sachs was awarded the 2019-2020 HRM Impact Award Honorable Mention for their project, “Goldman Sachs’ Graduate Recruitment Pre-Hire Assessment Strategy.”

Wendy’s will be recognized with a plaque at the SIOP Annual Conference at the JW Marriott in Austin, Texas in April 2020.

For details on this year’s winners as well as previous winning organizations and initiatives, visit the HRM Impact Award page. Submissions for the 2021 HRM Impact Award will open in early April 2020 and remain open through June 30, 2020.
