Leesburg, VA, April 25, 2016– Oral presentations delivered by some of the world's most renowned researchers and radiologists were among the highlights of the ARRS 2016 Annual Meeting recently in Los Angeles. The presentations covered 13 radiology subspecialities and were designed to provide innovative, educational information for conference attendees.

All presentations submitted were subjected to a highly-competitive review process to determine the most informative and best suited for the ARRS Annual Meeting. Among the top presentations were:

  • Prostate Cancer Detection and Grading Using Restriction Spectrum Imaging – (Genitourinary Prostate Imaging) The study found that restriction spectrum imaging improves on current noninvasive prostate cancer imaging and may enhance its diagnosis and characterization. The lead author is K. McCammack of the University of California, Los Angeles and the University of California, San Diego.
  • Reducing Biopsies: Novel Mammographic Algorithm – (Breast Imaging) The researchers' novel algorithm was found to reduce the number of unnecessary biopsies on the basis of suspicious calcifications by approximately 57%. The lead author is R. Rakow-Penner of the University of California, San Diego.
  • Faster Knee MRI: Accelerated SPACE – (Musculoskeletal Imaging) According to the authors, accelerated 3D SPACE has the potential to significantly decrease the amount of time required to acquire a clinical MRI of the knee with better visualization of tissues and at least noninferior demonstration of pathologic conditions. The lead author is J. Lee-Diaz, Siemens AG Healthcare, Erlangen, Germany.

All presentations may be viewed by visiting ARRS's website at http://www.arrs.org/ and clicking on the Education tab.
