RIVERSIDE, Calif. — The UC Riverside Department of Psychiatry and Neuroscience and Neuroscience Education Institute, or NEI, have partnered to deliver continuing medical education to mental health care providers throughout the United States.

“This unique relationship brings the leading psychiatric education provider together with a top-notch academic psychiatry department,” said Dr. Gerald A. Maguire, professor and chair of the Department of Psychiatry and Neuroscience at the UCR School of Medicine. “In a spirit of academia, UCR and NEI will deliver the most relevant, up-to-date content to enhance psychiatric care by providing life-long education, beginning with our own region of inland Southern California.”

“I am excited about the new collaboration of NEI with UCR, as it will bring high-quality education on the most important developments in the fields of psychiatry and neuroscience not only to the local region but well beyond,” said Dr. Stephen M. Stahl, founder of NEI and a clinical professor with the UCR School of Medicine.

The content includes a grand rounds series and a journal club aimed at presenting physicians and researchers with a wide breadth of information to which they might not otherwise be exposed. Grand rounds are a staple of continuing medical education, where physicians present often challenging medical problems and their solutions to audiences made up of doctors, residents, and medical students. The journal club is a gathering where clinicians, researchers, and other interested parties convene to discuss and evaluate recent medical and scientific literature.

“Our panel of presenters are leading clinicians and researchers in the psychiatry field,” Maguire said.

Grand rounds are delivered virtually every third Wednesday of the month, while the journal club takes place virtually the first Wednesday of every month.
