Martin Borch Jensen to present new research in the biology of aging at the world’s largest aging research for drug discovery conference

Wednesday, June 23, 2021, London — Martin Borch Jensen, PhD., will present the latest research on the topic In vivo pooled screening – A scalable tool to unravel the complexity of aging and age-related disease at the worlds’ largest annual Aging Research and Drug Discovery conference (8th ARDD). Dr. Martin Jensen is the Chief Scientific Officer at Gordian Biotechnology.
Martin Borch Jensen is founder and CSO of Gordian Biotechnology, which is developing therapeutics for age-related disease using a platform that allows hundreds of therapies to be tested in a single animal. Before this, he had an extensive career in academic aging research: after a M.S. in nanotechnology, he received Denmark’s most exclusive doctoral fellowship, EliteForsk, for his Ph.D. in biogerontology at the NIH National Institute on Aging. He then did postdoctoral research at the Buck Institute for Research on Aging, modifying multiple aging pathways to extend lifespan in model organisms. As a postdoc he received the ~$1M NIH Pathway to Independence award to start his independent lab, but returned the award to build Gordian’s in vivo screening platform.
“Aging happens in living organisms, driven by processes that can’t all be replicated in cell culture. This presents a challenge for developing drugs to treat aging and age-related disease, which can be tested in high-throughput culture systems but must then be validated in animal cohorts. With in vivo screening, we’re able to discover and validate therapies directly in the most relevant models, aged organisms, and thus accelerate the development of therapeutics.” said Martin Jensen, CSO of Gordian Biotechnology.

In the Scheibye-Knudsen lab we use in silico, in vitro and in vivo models to understand the cellular and organismal consequences of DNA damage with the aim of developing interventions. We have discovered that DNA damage leads to changes in certain metabolites and that replenishment of these molecules may alter the rate of aging in model organisms. These findings suggest that normal aging and age-associated diseases may be malleable to similar interventions.
