Register for a press pass to hear from leading experts on current advances and challenges in nutrition

Renowned scientists and practitioners will address key topics in nutrition from the United States and around the globe at Nutrition 2019, the flagship meeting of the American Society for Nutrition.

Nutrition 2019 will be held June 8-11, 2019 at the Baltimore Convention Center. Reporters and bloggers are invited to register for a complimentary press pass or follow along virtually. Explore the full schedule for a preview of scientific sessions and special events.

A traditional highlight of the meeting is the recognition of excellence in nutrition science and practice through distinguished lectureships. Nutrition 2019 will feature the following notable speakers:

  • George Bray, MD, is a Professor Emeritus at Louisiana State University and renowned researcher who has made seminal contributions to the fields of nutrition and obesity research. His efforts have significantly influenced the current understanding of the biology of obesity, and he has been a leader in developing and executing landmark trials testing weight loss interventions and their impacts on health. (Bray will receive the USDA Agricultural Research Service’s W.O. Atwater Memorial Award. His lecture “Lessons in the Tradition of Atwater” will be delivered on Sunday, June 9 from 3-4 p.m.)

  • Bo Lonnerdal, PhD, is a Distinguished Professor of Nutrition and Internal Medicine at the University of California, Davis. He is an internationally recognized leader in basic and translational pediatric nutrition research whose work in the areas of human milk composition and nutrient requirements during the first year of life have had substantial implications for the healthy development of infants throughout the world. (Lonnderdal will receive the Robert Suskind and Leslie Lewinter-Suskind Pediatric Nutrition Lifetime Achievement Award. His lecture “Breast Milk – The Ultimate Functional Food” will be delivered on Monday, June 10 from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.)

  • Marie T. Ruel, PhD, is Director of the Food Policy Research Institute’s Poverty, Health and Nutrition Division. She has worked for almost 30 years on policies and programs to alleviate food insecurity and malnutrition in developing countries. Through program evaluation and implementation science research, Ruel assesses the role that multi-sectoral, nutrition-sensitive programs play in reducing maternal and child malnutrition around the world. She has published extensively on maternal and child nutrition, urban livelihoods, food security and nutrition, and nutrition-sensitive programs and policies. (Ruel will receive the Kellogg Prize for Lifetime Achievements in International Nutrition and deliver a lecture on Monday, June 10 from 6:45-8:00 p.m.)

  • Mario Ferruzzi, PhD, is a Professor of Food Science and Nutrition at the North Carolina State University Plants for Human Health Institute. His research focuses on identifying food science strategies to inform development of food products that reduce the risk of chronic diseases and enhance the health of people across the globe. His work emphasizes how food formulation and processing affects the bioavailability, metabolism and potential impacts of health-promoting phytochemicals and micronutrients. (Ferruzzi will receive the Gilbert A. Leveille Award and deliver a lecture on Monday, June 10 from 10:30-11:30 a.m.)
