Simulation and real-time tests assess enhanced TOGI control for grid-connected solar PV–EV charging

Enhanced TOGI Control Framework Powers Bidirectional Solar EV Charging

A simulation and real-time hardware-in-the-loop study reports that an enhanced third-order generalized integrator (ETOGI) control framework can support bidirectional power management in a grid-connected solar photovoltaic–electric vehicle charging system. The study examined charging and discharging under static and dynamic operating conditions, with the abstract indicating lower current harmonic distortion and effective power management.

According to the study abstract, the proposed approach was used to control a bidirectional voltage-source converter. The researchers implemented and analyzed the model in Simulink, then tested it using an OPAL-RT real-time platform. The supplied evidence does not provide the numerical converter-loss values, harmonic-distortion results, power-flow measurements or details of the test setup, so the reported performance cannot be independently quantified from the abstract alone.

The study also compared Selective Harmonic Elimination Pulse Width Modulation with Phase Disposition Pulse Width Modulation. The abstract identifies total converter losses and harmonics as the performance criteria for this comparison, but it does not report the values obtained for either method or specify whether one modulation approach performed better.

These findings are limited to the modeled and real-time-tested configuration described in the abstract. They do not constitute evidence from a field deployment or a long-term operational trial, and the source does not report testing across multiple sites, vehicles, battery chemistries or grid conditions. The authors characterized the configuration as a reliable and efficient option for grid-connected solar PV-based EV charging applications, based on the reported power-management, loss-comparison and power-quality evaluations.
