Researchers have validated a Turkish-language version of the pediatric anesthesia patient satisfaction questionnaire originally developed by Iacobucci and colleagues, reporting that the translated instrument shows acceptable psychometric properties and is suitable for clinical use with Turkish children. The findings were published in BMC Anesthesiology as an open access research article.
The study was a prospective validation investigation involving 203 pediatric patients aged 1 to 16 years who were undergoing elective surgery, together with their parents. The questionnaire was rendered into Turkish using forward-backward translation, and data were collected postoperatively through structured interviews. Reliability was assessed with Cronbach’s alpha and test-retest analysis, while validity evaluations included the content validity index, exploratory factor analysis, confirmatory factor analysis, and known-group validity.
Among the participants, 75.9 percent of patients were male, with a mean age of 7.28 plus or minus 3.28 years. The most common procedure in the cohort was circumcision, accounting for 40.4 percent of cases. Cronbach’s alpha was 0.757 for the parent satisfaction subscale, which contains 11 items, and 0.833 for the child subscale after one item was removed.
The authors concluded that the Turkish Iacobucci pediatric anesthesia satisfaction questionnaire demonstrates acceptable psychometric properties and can be used in clinical settings with Turkish children. They also noted that multicenter studies are recommended for broader validation of the instrument.
The study’s scope was limited to elective surgical patients within the specified age range, so the reported properties apply to that population and context.
