The 13th World Congress of the World Mitochondria Society will be held next October in Berlin

On behalf of the Scientific Committee of the World Mitochondria Society (WMS), we are pleased to announce the organization of the 13th Annual Meeting of WMS on Targeting Mitochondria, which will be held on October 26-28, 2022 at the Steigenberger Hotel Am Kanzleramt, Berlin, Germany.

On behalf of the Scientific Committee of the World Mitochondria Society (WMS), we are pleased to announce the organization of the 13th Annual Meeting of WMS on Targeting Mitochondria, which will be held on October 26-28, 2022 at the Steigenberger Hotel Am Kanzleramt, Berlin, Germany.

Among the Hot Topics of Targeting Mitochondria 2022:

  • Workshop on How to Evaluate Mitochondria Function?
  • Mitochondrial Dysfunctions and Dynamics in Chronic Diseases
  • Extracellular Vesicles & Mitochondria: The Target
  • Mitochondrial Transplantation and Transfer
  • Nuclear-Mitochondrial Interactions and their Effect on Longevity and Health

Mitochondrial Medicine: Present and Future by Douglas C. Wallace

Targeting Mitochondria 2022 will be introduced by Douglas C. Wallace, Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, USA, who will give a keynote speech on Mitochondrial Medicine: Present and Future.

Among the new hot topics that will be highlighted this year is “Mitochondrial Transplantation and Transfer”:

James McCully, Harvard Medical School Department of Cardiac Surgery Boston Children’s Hospital, USA. will chair and introduce this session about Recent Advances in Mitochondrial Transplantation Therapy.

Michael Teitell, University of California, USA, will specifically deliberate on the Mitochondrial Transfer via MitoPunch.

Mitochondrial Transplantation Between Living Cells will also be covered by Dr. Julia A. Vorholt, ETH Zurich, Switzerland.

Melanie Walker, University of Washington Medical School, USA will specifically talk about the Use of Mitochondrial Transplantation for Stroke.

  • Deadline for Short Oral Submission: October 9, 2022
  • Deadline for Poster Submission: October 15, 2022

 

Targeting Mitochondria 2022 Scientific Awards:

As usual, many awards will be given during the congress. These include: Best Mitochondria Image, Best Oral Presentation, and Best Poster Presentation Awards.

Concerning the originality of this 13th Edition of the WMS annual meeting, which will be organized in-person after 2 years, the, Volkmar Weissig, president of WMS, Midwestern University, USA, and Marvin Edeas, chairman of the WMS scientific committee, Université de Paris, France, commented: “Again, we wish to confirm our previous statements “The future of medicine will come through mitochondria””.

The World Mitochondria Society emerged seamlessly out of a series of yearly conferences organized since 2010 by the International Society of Antioxidants in Nutrition and Health. The current president of the WMS is Volkmar Weissig, Midwestern University, College of Pharmacy Glendale, USA.
