Tsinghua University Press and Springer Nature honor two scientists for their outstanding contribution to nanoscience research

This year’s Nano Research Award, which is sponsored by Tsinghua University Press (TUP) and Springer Nature, was presented to two celebrated researchers in Changsha, China on 23 June. Xinhe Bao is Professor at the Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the University of Science and Technology of China, and Omar M. Yaghi is the James and Neeltje Tretter Chair Professor of Chemistry at the University of California, Berkeley in the US. The award ceremony was held during the 14th Sino-US Forum on Nanoscale Science and Technology.

Xinhe Bao was selected for the award for his significant contribution to the creation of new catalytic materials and the development of clean and efficient conversion processes for energy. He has achieved important research results in the basic theory of catalysis and the development and application of new catalysts.

Omar M. Yaghi received the award for pioneering a new field of research known as reticular chemistry. This chemistry has led to the discovery of several new classes of molecular structures called metal-organic frameworks, covalent organic frameworks, zeolitic imidazolate frameworks, and molecular weaving having ultra-high porosity, and thermal and chemical stability. Hundreds of laboratories worldwide are building on Yaghi’s work which can be used for many applications, for example in carbon capture and conversion, or harvesting water from desert air.

Nano Research is an international academic journal that is jointly published by TUP and Springer Nature. Its 2018 Impact Factor calculated by Clarivate Analytics is 8.515.

The Nano Research Award, which was established by the journal Nano Research together with TUP and Springer, is given to individual scientists who have contributed significantly to nanoscience research. The winners are selected by an award committee made up of the Editors-in-Chief, Associate Editors, representatives from TUP and Springer Nature. Past awardees include Charles M. Lieber of Harvard University, Paul Alivisatos and Peidong Yang both of University of California, Berkeley, Yi Xie of the University of Science and Technology of China, Lei Jiang of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chad Mirkin of Northwestern University.
