(University of California – Riverside) A team of biomedical scientists led by researchers at the University of California, Riverside has identified a molecule (123C4) that targets a gene (EphA4 receptor) that plays a critical role in the progression of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, sometimes known as Lou Gehrig's disease, which affects motor neurons. The expression of EphA4 is associated also with other conditions including abnormal blood clotting, spinal cord and brain injury, Alzheimer's disease, as well as gastric and pancreatic cancers.
