Indianapolis, Aug. 7, 2018 – The Journal of Nutrition Education and Behavior (JNEB) announces the 2018 Best Article and Best Great Educational Material (GEM) awards presented at the Society for Nutrition Education and Behavior (SNEB) 51st Annual Conference, "Optimizing Impact: Supporting Food Systems with Nutrition Education," held in Minneapolis, MN, July 21, 2018. These annual awards recognize the authors of the best article and best GEM published in the prior year in JNEB, as judged by members of the JNEB Journal Committee and Board of Editors. All authors will receive a plaque, and the lead authors will receive a monetary award.

This year, the Best Article Award is being presented to authors Matthew M. Graziose, Pamela A. Koch, Y. Claire Wang, Heewon Lee Gray, and Isobel R. Contento for their article "Cost-effectiveness of a Nutrition Education Curriculum Intervention in Elementary Schools," published in the September 2017 issue of JNEB. The best article was selected from 105 published articles, briefs, and reports. Dr. Graziose presented the results of the Best Article during the JNEB Research Session at the conference on Sunday, July 22.

The Best GEM award recipients for 2018 are authors Leanne Whiteside-Mansell and Taren M. Swindle for their paper "GEM NO. 570: Together We Inspire Smart Eating: A Preschool Curriculum for Obesity Prevention in Low-Income Families," published in the October 2017 issue of JNEB. Dr. Swindle presented their research from the Best GEM during the conference awards ceremony held on Sunday, July 22. GEMs are resources developed to educate on certain topics or distribute programs to help in the nutrition education field. The Best GEM was selected from 13 published GEMs.
