The Eldercare Workforce Alliance (EWA) today recognized Rep. Jan Schakowsky with its Award of Honor for her decades of leadership and commitment to the eldercare workforce. Rep. Schakowsky, who earlier this year introduced the bipartisan Geriatrics Workforce and Caregiver Enhancement Act, has been an ardent champion for educating and supporting our healthcare workforce by empowering them to improve the quality of care delivered to us all as we age.

"Our ability to live longer and contribute to our communities rests on strengthening a diverse eldercare workforce to support well-being as we age," said Amy York, Executive Director of the Eldercare Workforce Alliance. "Representative Schakowsky's record reflects our shared belief that supportive federal policies are key to that future. Her most recent bill, the Geriatrics Workforce and Caregiver Enhancement Act, expands the only federal geriatrics training program and promotes interdisciplinary team-based collaboration integrating geriatrics and primary care."

Jan Schakowsky was elected to represent Illinois' 9th Congressional District in 1998 after serving eight years in the Illinois State Assembly. Rep. Schakowsky presently serves in the House Democratic Leadership as Chief Deputy Whip. She is a member of the House Democratic Steering and Policy Committee and House Budget Committee, as well as the House Energy and Commerce Committee, where she serves as Ranking Member of the Digital Commerce and Consumer Protection Subcommittee and as a member of the Health and Oversight & Investigations Subcommittees. She is also co-chair of the Seniors Task Force, which works to raise public awareness of Congressional policies that would improve the health and well-being of America's seniors.
