Dr. Julia Grapsa named editor-in-chief of new journal

WASHINGTON (Feb. 25, 2019) — The American College of Cardiology will begin publishing a new journal, JACC: Case Reports, beginning in June 2019, with Julia Grapsa, MD, PhD, serving as editor-in-chief.

JACC: Case Reports aims to publish high quality, educationally valuable case reports, case series, images and quality improvement projects covering all aspects of cardiology. The Journal will serve as a publication vehicle for early career cardiologists and members of the cardiovascular care team and as a forum for mentorship on the review and publication process.

Grapsa will begin her five-year term as editor-in-chief in March 2019. She is currently a consultant cardiologist at Barts Health NHS Trust, home to Europe’s largest specialised cardiovascular center at St Bartholomew’s Hospital, and is head of the Echocardiography Department at The Royal London Hospital. She is also an associate professor at University College London. Her areas of research include pulmonary hypertension and the study of right heart remodeling with multimodality imaging.

Grapsa has served as chair of the young community for multimodality imaging for the European Association of Cardiovascular Imaging and as a member of the European Society of Cardiology education committee, leading the ESC clinical case gallery. She is already a part of the JACC family of journals, serving as an editorial consultant for JACC: Cardiovascular Imaging.

“I am honored to be joining this new venture and confident that we will provide high quality content and transforming clinical cardiology through clinical cases,” Grapsa said. “It is a privilege for me to be able to work with some of leading cardiologists of our generation worldwide and be a part of JACC journals family.”

The American College of Cardiology envisions a world where innovation and knowledge optimize cardiovascular care and outcomes. As the professional home for the entire cardiovascular care team, the mission of the College and its more than 52,000 members is to transform cardiovascular care and to improve heart health. The ACC bestows credentials upon cardiovascular professionals who meet stringent qualifications and leads in the formation of health policy, standards and guidelines. The College also provides professional medical education, disseminates cardiovascular research through its world-renowned JACC Journals, operates national registries to measure and improve care, and offers cardiovascular accreditation to hospitals and institutions. The Journal of the American College of Cardiology ranks among the top cardiovascular journals in the world for its scientific impact. JACC is the flagship for a family of journals–JACC: Cardiovascular Interventions, JACC: Cardiovascular Imaging, JACC: Heart Failure, JACC: Clinical Electrophysiology and JACC: Basic to Translational Science–that prides themselves in publishing the top peer-reviewed research on all aspects of cardiovascular disease.
