After a bad winter in the ocean, female Magellanic penguins suffer most, study shows

(University of Washington) Research from the University of Washington is showing how Magellanic penguins fare during the winter months when they spend months at sea feeding. They have discovered that oceanographic features are more likely to negatively impact the body conditions of Magellanic penguin females, but not males, when the penguins return to their nesting grounds in spring.
