The evolution of multiple sclerosis (MS) over the last century and a half will be the topic of discussion during a presentation by Dr. T.J. "Jock" Murray, a recognized innovator in medical education and author of the award winning book "Multiple Sclerosis: The History of a Disease." His presentation will take place on Thursday, May 31, 2018, at 9:15 am, during Fundamentals of MS Care at the 2018 Annual Meeting of the Consortium of Multiple Sclerosis Centers (CMSC) in Nashville, TN.
"I look forward to sharing with healthcare providers, from all disciplines, the history of MS and how we progressed to where we are today. The CMSC Annual Meeting does have a strong focus on advances in MS, but it is important to understand how we got here," said Dr. Murray.
The CMSC Annual Meeting, May 30-June 2 at the Music City Center in Nashville, TN, is the largest educational conference and professional development event for all healthcare clinicians, researchers, scientists and professionals in training engaged in the MS field. The four-day educational program includes a full agenda of lectures, clinical courses, symposia, workshops, roundtables, panel discussions, posters and platform presentations. Dr. Murray is the former Dean of Medicine at Dalhousie University. He was a founder of the Dalhousie MS Research unit, and initiated the Medical Humanities Program at Dalhousie. He was a founder and president of the Consortium of MS Centers, the Canadian Association of Medical Colleges, the Canadian Neurological Society, the Canadian Society for the History of Medicine, the American Osler Society and chairman of the American College of Physicians. He has received many awards for contributions to MS, medical education, medical humanities and medical history, and has been awarded five honorary degrees. He is an Officer of the Order of Canada and the Order of Nova Scotia and has been inducted into Canadian Medical Hall of Fame. He also recently published the 5th edition of the Guide for Newly Diagnosed MS Patients.
