June 08, 2021 – Christopher Chesley, MD, of the University of Pennsylvania has been named the 2021 ATS Fellowship in Health Equality Award winner for his project “Determining disparities in care quality for patients with acute respiratory failure and sepsis: the role of hospital-wide capacity strain.”

As a recipient of the Fellowship, Dr. Chesley will receive $25,000 to support his project for one year. In addition, he will be appointed to the ATS Health Equality and Diversity Committee.

“This fellowship recognizes rising stars within our ATS community who are pursuing impactful work that advances the field towards addressing respiratory health inequities,” said Neeta Thakur, MD, chair of the ATS Health Equality and Diversity Committee. “By providing a commitment at an often-critical juncture, we hope this award will afford early career investigators like Dr. Chesley protected time and networking opportunities within ATS, further cultivating their career development and research success.”

“In reviewing Dr. Chelsey’s application, it was clear that he already had great productivity in this area, and a clear desire to investigate health disparities in critical care,” said Juan Wisnivesky, MD, chair of the ATS Health Equality Fellowship Review Committee. “I look forward to working closely with him and I am confident he will be an excellent collaborator on the ATS Health Equality and Diversity Committee.”
