Annual Reviews, a nonprofit publisher of scholarly review journals for more than 85 years, announced the publication of the first volume of the Annual Review of Developmental Psychology. The new journal is co-edited by Susan A. Gelman (University of Michigan) and Sandra R. Waxman (Northwestern University), and provides an important new interdisciplinary resource covering significant advances in the developmental sciences, including cognitive, linguistic, social, cultural, and biological processes across the lifespan.

“The Annual Review of Developmental Psychology adds a developmental perspective to enrich the understanding of all aspects of psychological functioning, from cognitive to social to biological to educational. We are delighted and honored to be working with Annual Reviews to connect fundamental principles of developmental psychology to models of developmental mechanisms, in one direction, and to policy, in the other,” said Dr. Gelman.

The inaugural volume’s 16 articles represent a balanced mix of classic issues, new approaches, and “the alchemy that comes from building bridges across traditional disciplinary boundaries,” noted Dr. Waxman. She added, “We intend to create a salon for interdisciplinary conversations that will at times challenge disciplinary concepts, spark new insights, and inspire exciting new disciplinary and interdisciplinary collaborations and ventures. We are off to a great start with the support of our Editorial Committee, with their broad theoretical reach and enthusiasm for crossing disciplinary boundaries, and an exceptional group of authors in our first volume.”

Annual Reviews articles are highly cited scientific reviews written by top experts in each discipline. The extensive collection of 51 review journals can provide researchers, journalists, and policymakers with empirical background based on a synthesis of knowledge from multiple relevant and rigorous studies.

The new journal complements the high-impact Annual Review of Psychology, which launched in 1950 and offers a selection of key reviews on development. The Annual Review of Developmental Psychology‘s scope offers broader coverage of the burgeoning field of developmental science to provide a forum for leading and emerging scholars to review and debate important discoveries and advances. A feature common to the two journals is the long-standing tradition of including an invited autobiographical article by a distinguished scholar in each volume.

The full volume is freely available online for an initial preview period.
