The 2019 MRS Communications Lecture recognizes excellence in the field of materials research through work published in MRS Communications. It is intended to honor the authors of an outstanding paper published in the journal during the award year.

The 2019 MRS Communications Lecture will be presented by Timothy J. Bunning from the Air Force Research Laboratory, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio. The paper, ‘Dynamic optical properties of gold nanoparticles/cholesteric liquid crystal arrays’ written in conjunction with Luciano De Sio, Ugo Cataldi, Alexa Guglielmelli, Thomas Bürgi, and Nelson Tabiryan is freely available until May 31, 2019.

Editor-in-Chief of MRS Communications, Rigoberto C. Advincula, stated ‘The field of plasmonic and photo-thermal conversion with solid state liquid crystal display devices has been brought closer and empirically demonstrated by the authors. This outstanding work can potentially lead to new display devices and sensors that can impact smartphone design and development of security devices.’
