The International Osteoporosis Foundation (IOF) has recognized Greg Lyubomirsky and Radmila Matijevic for their contributions to IOF and dedication to advancing education and awareness of osteoporosis

Dr Radmila Matijevic (ASTAS, Serbia) and Dr Greg Lyubomirsky (Osteoporosis Australia) have been awarded the prestigious International Osteoporosis Foundation (IOF) President’s Award. The Award is presented annually to individuals representing IOF member societies, in recognition of their contributions to IOF and their exceptional commitment to advancing education and awareness in the field.
The presentations took place on April 5, 2019 at a special ceremony during the World Congress on Osteoporosis, Osteoarthritis and Musculoskeletal Diseases, which took place from April 4-7 in Paris, France.
IOF President Cyrus Cooper presented the awards and congratulated the winners, stating:
“This Award honours two individuals who have made a significant and unstinting contribution to the advancement of the work of the IOF, by furthering one or more of the mission statements and goals of the Foundation. Greg Lyubomirsky and Radmila Matijevic are deserving recipients of the Award, having shown great personal commitment and outstanding efforts in advancing education, awareness and advocacy in their respective countries and regions. These achievements reflect the enormous importance of patient and medical societies, which play an essential role in the global fight against osteoporosis and fragility fractures.”
Greg Lyubomirsky is the current CEO of Osteoporosis Australia, the leading organization in the country responsible for providing osteoporosis. He has decades of experience in the healthcare industry and chronic disease management, beginning his career as a clinical immunologist and then moving into the health care sector, where he served in various executive roles in industry, both in Australia and other regions. Dr Lyubomirsky has also been a board member of the Asian Diabetes Foundation and has co-authored clinical papers on osteoporosis, diabetes and patient management protocols. In his role at Osteoporosis Australia, Dr Lyubomirsky is committed to improving the bone health of all Australians through education and awareness, by communicating the positive and simple steps people can take to improve bone health and reduce the incidence of osteoporosis and related fractures.
Radmila Matijevic is Assistant Professor, Medical Faculty, University of Novi Sad, and the Rehabilitation Unit Clinical Lead at the Orthopedic and Traumatology Clinic, Clinical Centre of Vojvodina, Novi Sad, Serbia. As the IOF representative of the Association of Sports Traumatology and Arthroscopy of Serbia (ASTAS), she has collaborated closely with IOF since 2014. Dr Matijevic has organized more than ten international conferences with the aim of raising awareness of osteoporosis while focusing on the key IOF objectives to prevent, diagnose and treat osteoporosis. She serves as a mentor for students’ final exams at the Medical Faculty and has published several research papers and co-authored chapters in medical books. She has developed and implemented a database required to store and extract DXA patient data and is working on a regional project on sarcopenia. As well, Dr Matijevic has worked on developing a FRAX model for Serbia, has been responsible for the SarQol translation into Serbian, and has worked tirelessly to introduce national and regional health policy makers to the importance of Fracture Liaison Services for secondary fracture prevention.
