The ACC celebrates World Kidney Day as part of broader awareness efforts

The American College of Cardiology will participate in the health awareness campaign for World Kidney Day, celebrated on March 14, 2019, through social media and communication outreach efforts. Additionally, this year, over 20 abstracts highlighting how chronic kidney disease or acute kidney injury are linked to cardiovascular disease will be presented at the ACC’s 68th Annual Scientific Session, March 16 – 18, 2019, in New Orleans.

World Kidney Day began in 2006 as a joint initiative between The International Society of Nephrology and The International Federation of Kidney Foundations to raise awareness surrounding the importance of kidneys to overall health and reduce the frequency of kidney disease worldwide. The 2019 World Kidney Day theme is, “Kidney Health for Everyone Everywhere,” and aims to promote universal health coverage for prevention and early treatment of kidney disease.

The following abstracts are a selection of the kidney-disease focused posters being presented at ACC.19. To receive copies of these abstracts, contact Sam Roth at [email protected].

  • Treatment of Periodontal Disease Significantly Affects the Rate of Cardiovascular Events in Patients With Chronic Kidney Disease

  • Oral Anticoagulation Underused And Aspirin Overused For Atrial Fibrillation With Advanced Chronic Kidney Disease Status

  • The Impact of Chronic Kidney Disease and Anemia Upon Outcomes in the Revascularized Patient Population

  • Residual Inflammatory Risk in Patients with Chronic Kidney Disease Undergoing Percutaneous Coronary Intervention

  • Hypertension in Mild to Moderate Chronic Kidney Disease and the Relationship between Depression, and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder of a Predominantly Middle-Aged Population

  • Statin Therapy Among Chronic Kidney Disease Patients Presenting With Acute Coronary Syndrome

The ACC’s Annual Scientific Session will take place March 16-18, 2019, in New Orleans, bringing together cardiologists and cardiovascular specialists from around the world to share the newest discoveries in treatment and prevention. Follow @ACCinTouch, @ACCMediaCenter and #ACC19 for the latest news from the meeting.
