Each will receive 4 to 6 million rubles of funding per year

Nine projects of Ural Federal University (UrFU) researchers will be supported following the results of the latest Russian Science Foundation competition. Grants in the amount of 4 to 6 million rubles a year will be spent on basic research by individual research groups.

Vladimir Kruzhaev, UrFU Vice-Rector for Research, notes that six of the nine winners presented brand new projects that will be funded for three years. For the other three, the Russian Science Foundation extended the support of scientific groups, which has been working since 2016, for two years. The Institute of Natural Sciences and Mathematics has won five grants, the Ural Institute of Humanities – three. One grant was taken by a representative of the UrFU Graduate School of Economics and Management.

‘Traditionally, the Institute of Natural Sciences and Mathematics performs very well, having prepared many applications and received support for both new and ongoing projects,’ Vladimir Kruzhaev notes. ‘The Ural Institute of Humanities with three new projects also continues to move forward to attract external funding. This institute manages to find new themes and prepare quality applications for contests. The success of Ivan Savin from the Graduate School of Economics and Management is also very indicative, because it is not the first time that he has received such major support for his group’s research.’

In total, the Russian Science Foundation received more than 3.6 thousand applications for the contest “Conducting Basic Scientific Research and Exploratory Research by Individual Research Groups”. According to the selection results, it was decided to support 681 projects.
