The 17th International Conference on Organized Molecular Films (ICOMF) in Brooklyn, NY, USA, during 23th – 27th July 2018 will provide a unique opportunity for chemists, physicists, biologists, material scientists, polymer scientists, chemical engineers and researchers in related fields to gather and discuss their latest results in the field of molecular thin films, colloids, nanoparticles, nanostructures, nanoobjects, and bio-inspired systems, and to develop and extend international collaborations.
This conference started as a small and focused symposium in 1983 in Durham, UK as the Conference on Langmuir-Blodgett Films (LB Conference), motivated by groundbreaking studies on monomolecular films and was focused solely on Langmuir-Blodgett Films. It was soon transformed into a broad international forum covering the entire field of organized films, and was renamed later the 'International Conference on Organized Molecular Films' (ICOMF).
As with all scientific fields, research on organized molecular films advances fast, and with the help of new fundamental knowledge, advance characterization, and powerful theoretical insight and computational techniques, the science has continuously developed and produced new applications and innovations. Thus, organized molecular films have become one of the cornerstones in many research fields, such as fundamental chemistry and physics, nanoscience and technology, and biomimicking systems, to mention just a few.
The multi-disciplinary nature of studies of organized molecular films requires scientists from various fields to collaborate in ways rarely found in other fields. To this end, the ICOMF conference serves as a unique and excellent forum, where chemists, physicists, biologists, material scientists, polymer scientists, chemical engineers, and researchers from academy, national research institutes and industry gather and discuss their latest results. This combination of cutting edge science and a hub for exchanging ideas, and forging collaborations has made this conference a highly successful biennial conference series.
