The Chemistry academics from UWS have been invited to join ScotCHEM – a partnership representing chemical sciences research across universities, government, industry and the public.

UWS joins current members, the Universities of Aberdeen, Dundee, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Heriot-Watt, St Andrews, and Strathclyde.

Professor John F Smith, Head of the Physical Sciences Division within the School of Computing, Engineering and Physical Sciences, said: “The aim of ScotCHEM is to add value to the outstanding chemistry and chemical sciences research carried out in Scotland, supporting excellent research, creating new networks and relationships, and promoting chemistry and chemical sciences research across multiple audiences and platforms.

“We are delighted to have joined this important partnership and we look forward to working with our colleagues from across Scotland, maximizing the benefits to our research and knowledge transfer programmes and our teaching and learning activities at UWS.”

ScotCHEM is a strategic collaboration, pooling and enhancing resources for chemistry research and research training in Scotland. It brings together universities and other major players in research in the chemical sciences to generate enhanced critical mass and collaboration and to enable wider access to major facilities.

Professor Bill MacDonald, CEO of ScotCHEM, said: “We are delighted that UWS is joining ScotCHEM. As the alliance for the chemical sciences across Scotland, we connect the nation’s chemical sciences research, innovation and skills delivery with industry, government and the public.

“UWS has a very strong track record of delivering industry-focused chemistry teaching and research. This, together with its emphasis on knowledge transfer and interdisciplinary research environment, makes UWS a perfect partner for ScotCHEM. We look forward to advancing the chemical sciences in partnership with our newest member.”
