UNIST has joined hands with the CJ AI Center to foster future talents in the field of artificial intelligence (AI) and to strengthen scientific and technological capabilities between the parties.
A ceremony to mark the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two organizations took place in the Main Administration Building of UNIST on September 22, 2022. The ceremony has been attended by Director Chi-hoon Lee of the CJ AI Center, Dean Jae-Young Sim of the College of Information and Biotechnology, Director Soon-Yong Kwon from the Office of University Industry Relations, and other key officials from both organizations.
Through this partnership, the two organizations have agreed to conduct and promote joint research projects in hoping to improve their competitive edge in the field of AI. They have also agreed to deepen cooperation in the following areas: △ Joint use of research facilities and equipment, △ Exchange of research personnel, △ Exchange of information and experience in science and technology, and △ Customized talent cultivation.
UNIST and CJ Corp. have been working closely on a number of projects, including the cooperative (Co-Op) education program of UNIST. In August, a group of undergraduate students were dispatched to the CJ AI Center for an internship where they will gain 6 months of real-world experience through the UNIST Co-Op Program.
The event has been followed by the first joint technical exchange meeting of UNIST-CJ AI Center, which was held for the purpose of encouraging, developing, and facilitating cooperation activities, including joint research projects and technology exchange. About 20 key officials from both organizations, including Dean Jae-Young Sim of the College of Information and Biotechnology, and Director Chi-hoon Lee of the CJ AI Center gathered for an in-depth discussion on various topics in relation to AI.
After the meeting, a special lecture by Director Chi-hoon Lee of the CJ AI Center, was held under the theme of ‘Journey of AI for Real-world Applications’ with more than 100 UNIST students attending.
