On 29th – 31st August 2018, Russia will host its first summit run by Times Higher Education (THE) – the world's leading center for higher education journalism, analytics and expertise. For over half a century, THE has determined development strategies for universities and has enjoyed sustained credibility and recognition within academia and beyond.

Kazan, the capital of the Republic of Tatarstan, was chosen as the venue for the first THE Research Excellence Summit held in the Eurasian region – Times Higher Education Research Excellence Summit: Eurasia. In keeping with the Summit motto (Uniting East and West in an emerging world research and innovation hub), its mission is to bring together prominent global leaders across government, industry and expert communities to focus on higher education challenges and ways of overcoming them, as well as to work out the trajectory and sustainable development mechanisms for world-class universities.

Of special interest to the Summit participants and international community are traditional panel discussions that are part of the THE Summit Series. They are focused on a set of issues that are highly relevant for global leading universities, on the one hand, and are of strategic importance for regional and national development of the Summit's host countries, on the other. The panel discussions and keynote reports presented at the THE Summit in Kazan will encompass the following clusters:

  • Higher education as a driver of regional growth. Investing in higher education as a policy priority.
  • World-class research for creating global impact.
  • National academic excellence initiatives.
  • The future of medical education.
  • Taking care of the future: attracting talent and investment. Universities in the fourth industrial revolution – challenges and opportunities.

The Summit program features around thirty world-class speakers, including:

At the summit, Times Higher Education will also exclusively publish the first ever THE ranking focused on Eurasian nations. The list of countries includes Afghanistan, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Republic of Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkey, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, and Uzbekistan – a huge macroregion that represents around 18% of the Earth's surface territory and is the home to over 485 million people.

Times Higher Education Research Excellence Summit: Eurasia 2018, uniting thought leaders across higher education and science in one venue, will undoubtedly become one of the most high-profile intellectual events of 2018, providing a powerful impulse for professional growth to its participants, fostering new ideas and their successful implementation in the upcoming academic year.
