Springer now offers its Springer Book Archives (SBA) in smaller year set packages. The new SBA packages are divided up into "eras," and make it easier for libraries to purchase individual subject collections according to their own needs and current budget situation. The three year sets – Vintage (1840-1989), Modern (1990-1999) and Millennium (2000-2004) – provide greater purchasing flexibility, thus providing an accessible e-resource for libraries and organizations worldwide.

Usage statistics and web analytics show that researchers are searching, utilizing and extracting value from research in many of the titles found in the Springer Book Archives. The portfolio includes over 120,000 titles in science, technology and medicine. Content dates from 2004 back to the 1840s and includes titles which were previously hard to find or unavailable in print, offering researchers a comprehensive research resource. The Book Archives is hosted on Springer's online content platform SpringerLink.

Wouter van der Velde, Senior eProduct Manager eBooks at Springer, said, "The Springer Book Archives was previously available only by purchasing complete packages. Now librarians have the option of acquiring the packages according to time period within a subject collection. The benefits of securing electronic access to such high-quality archived research content are enormous. The year set packages are a way to give our customers exactly what they require."

Eligible for year set options are the eleven English-language archive collections consisting of Behavioral Science; Biomedical and Life Sciences; Business and Economics; Chemistry and Materials Science; Computer Science; Earth and Environmental Sciences; Engineering; Humanities, Social Science and Law; Mathematics and Statistics; Medicine; and Physics and Astronomy. Also eligible are the five German-language archive collections: Medicine; Computer Science and Engineering; Business and Economics; Humanities and Social Sciences; and Life and Basic Disciplines.
