2024 Fiddler Innovation Fellowship Awardees

The National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA) has recently recognized the achievements of 17 graduate students from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign with the prestigious Fiddler Innovation Fellowships. This award, presented during a ceremony held on January 28, celebrates outstanding interdisciplinary contributions made by these students in various innovative fields. By bridging gaps between disciplines, the awardees exemplified the spirit of innovation and research that NCSA encourages and fosters through its programs, particularly the Students Pushing Innovation (SPIN) initiative and Design for America.

Among the 17 awardees is Ray Xu, a prominent SPIN intern whose project focused on understanding reading development through behavioral and computational methods. Now a co-founder of the startup Omnial AI, Xu and his team are creating an artificial intelligence productivity engine that aims to democratize the use of AI technology, allowing individuals with varying levels of technical expertise to benefit from intuitive and transformative AI-driven solutions.

Alongside Xu, fellow recipient Jake Metz has made significant strides in the intersection of technology and the arts.
