On June 6, Forum on Russian-Chinese Biomedical Cooperation was launched at the Zhangjiang Hi-Tech Park in Shanghai (Pudong new district). The event was held within the framework the 'One Belt – One Road' initiative'.

The main goal of the forum is to promote scientific and technical cooperation between Russia and China, implementing innovative technologies, providing a platform for Russian-speaking scholars on the territory of China, and assisting to the Chinese side in creation of joint research centers. Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University (SPbPU) is a strategic partner of the Forum, so the delegation headed by rector of the university, an academician of the Russian Academy of Science, Dr. Andrey Rudskoy participates in this significant event.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the event, rector of SPbPU Dr. Andrey Rudskoy underlined the need to deepen Russian-Chinese cooperation in the most important scientific and educational fields, adding that currently Polytechnic University cooperates with 40 universities in China, among which are Tsinghua University and Zhejiang University, as well as Shanghai Fudan University, Shanghai Transport University, East China Normal University, Harbin Polytechnic University, Xian Transportation University and others.

Polytechnic University is strongly focused on development of biomedical technologies and sciences. In 2015, the university together with the Federal Almazov North-West Medical Research Centre and other universities (St. Petersburg) created a medical scientific and educational cluster 'Translational Medicine', and in 2016 an agreement on cooperation with Shanghai Biomedical Industry Association was signed.

During the Forum on Russian-Chinese Biomedical Cooperation another important step towards the development of international cooperation was undertaken. The university became a member of the Center of Russian-Chinese Biomedical Cooperation initiated by the business incubator "PuE"(Shanghai).

A range of agreements and contracts were signed in cooperation with the business incubator "PuE" on technology transfer: such as 'Development of ultrasensitive thin-film sensors based on multilayer nanostructures' with the company 'Shanghai MiaoSheng Intelligent Technology' Co., Ltd, and the contract on 'Implementation of SmartFoil technology in manufacturing of electronics using ceramic, piezoceramic and metallic SMD elements' with 'HengE (Shanghai) Medical Technology' Co, Ltd.

In addition, contracts on establishing the laboratories 'Machine education and intellectual systems' and 'Mathematical modeling, Big data and Control' in collaboration with Special committee on industrialization of scientific achievements in China, LLC "Sinotrans Logistics" and 'Bei Shen' Co. , Ltd were signed by the parties.

At the Forum the scientist of SPbPU gave reports about R&D projects of the university and results of scientific and educational collaboration with both Russian and foreign partners.
