The award is given annually to outstanding specialists who have made an exceptional contribution to interventional cardiovascular medicine and patient care.

Paris, France. At the upcoming edition of EuroPCR, the interventional community will be paying tribute to the 2019 recipient of the Ethica Award, Professor Jean Marco. The ceremony will take place in the main arena of the Palais des Congres Porte Maillot in Paris on Thursday 23 May at 11:30. The recognition coincides with the 30th anniversary of the Course, which was founded by Professor Marco himself in 1989.

Each year the Ethica Award recognises those who have contributed in a substantial way to serving the needs of each individual patient by helping the cardiovascular community to share knowledge, experience and practice in their constantly evolving field. Professor Jean Marco, who began his career as Professor of Cardiology at the University of Toulouse and head of the Hemodynamic Department in the University Hospital Purpan, performed his first angioplasty in September 1979, just two years after the very first one in history.

He understood from the beginning that the continuous education of healthcare professionals is an essential determinant of improved patient outcomes. While working for the next generation, his commitment to effective education brought him to study, adopt and teach evolving educational principles. They were always based on respectful peer-to-peer interaction and the non-judgmental sharing of experience.

Known for his constant curiosity, out-of-the-box thinking and open-minded adaptation to local needs and culture, he has had a caring impact on the life of countless patients and their families. Professor Jean Marco’s legacy will continue to inspire generations of interventional cardiologists worldwide who have inherited his fundamental principles of sharing impactful, relevant, lifelong and self-directed learning.
