How are the Nordic countries dealing with climate change? At the Nordic Conference on Climate Adaptation, top researchers, EU politicians and business sector representatives will discuss why it is important to accelerate the process of climate adaptation. The programme includes what action has been taken by different Nordic capitals, and how citizens can be engaged in adaptation efforts. Everyone who works with or is interested in climate change adaptation is welcome.

What are we in the Nordic countries doing, as temperatures rise and heavy rains come with increasing frequency? The Nordic Conference on Climate Change Adaptation (NOCCA) will focus on good examples of Nordic climate change adaptation and solutions to different social challenges, within various sectors of society. For instance the need for courageous politicians and business opportunities arising from the new climatic conditions.

At one of the seminars, infrastructure experts from across the Nordic region will address the difficult issues of how society should evaluate climate effects in the long term, that is, further into the future than current climate scenarios stretch, and what strategies are required to efficiently adapt existing infrastructure.

For the first time, developers of games and interactive applications for climate adaptation in the Nordic region will get together, with the aim of raising awareness of this strong sector, and of finding new development opportunities.

In October the UN's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change will release the final version of the special report "Global Warming of 1.5°C". During the negotiations at the 2015 UN Climate Change Conference in Paris there were requests for scientific material that describes the climatic effects resulting from a 1.5-degree global warming, as well as possible pathways for the future. The conference will feature a special activity devoted to the report.

Keynote speakers at the conference include Karen O'Brien, professor at the University of Oslo. She works with issues relating to global environmental change, transformation, vulnerability, adaptation of climate change and security. She is particularly interested in how societies create and respond to climate change.

The conference is part of the programme for Sweden's 2018 leadership of the Nordic Council of Ministers.

The organiser of the Nordic Conference on Climate Change Adaptation (NOCCA) is Linköping University, the Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute (SMHI) and Norrköping Municipality.

The programme is now available. Book in the dates!

Nordic Conference on Climate Change Adaptation (NOCCA) 23-25 October at the De Geer Hallen in Norrköping, Sweden

About the Nordic Conference on Climate Change Adaptation (NOCCA):

The conference welcomes all who work on climate change adaptation, within the fields of science, in local communities, governments and municipal administration, in ministries and national authorities, politics, businesses, industry and NGOs. Its aim is to exchange ideas for adaptation methods, to identify solution opportunities across many sectors of society, to increase our knowledge of the latest climate science and of practical experiences of climate adaptation, and to discuss how to integrate solutions for adaptation and mitigation.
