IOP Publishing (IOPP) is launching Environmental Research 2023, a series of free-to-attend virtual events which will take place from 16 October through to 23 November. The series will bring leading environmental experts together to exchange knowledge and address crucial challenges related to the environment and sustainability.

Aligned with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Environmental Research 2023 will be broad in scope with multiple events focussing on strategic issues such as sustainable energy, environmental justice, the environmental impacts of building materials, ambient air pollution and detection and attribution of climate change.

Live-streamed presentations from world-leading speakers, poster competitions and networking opportunities will provide an online global platform for environmental and social scientists, engineers, and policy makers.

Professor Arpad Horvath, editor-in-chief of Environmental Research: Infrastructure and Sustainability said: “Environmental Research 2023 is set to bring together a selection of cutting-edge research presentations and visionary discussants on how to help put our societies on sustainable pathways. I’m excited about the real impact this series of events can make on the future of our planet and the enrichment of society. I’m proud to be part of IOP Publishing’s virtual events series which is designed to maximise accessibility for all attendees whilst keeping the environmental impact to a minimum.”

Miriam Maus, Chief Publishing Officer at IOP Publishing said: “This is a global platform for some of the world’s leading environmental research. Through a series of diverse events, this year’s programme is designed to generate ideas that will link the UN’s SDGs and boost the response to climate change. IOPP takes its sustainability commitments seriously, so we’re proud to put environmental issues centre stage.”

The conference is aligned with IOPP’s expanding Environmental Research portfolio of open access journals that includes Environmental Research Letters, Environmental Research Communications and a new series of six subject-specific multidisciplinary journals covering the most critical areas of environmental science today. The comprehensive scientific programme for Environmental Research 2023 is being developed by a distinguished group of academics including:

  • Norbert Edomah, Pan-Atlantic University, Lagos, Nigeria
  • Emily Grubert, University of Notre Dame, USA
  • Dan Kammen, University of California, Berkeley, USA
  • Yele Sun, Institute of Atmospheric Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, China
  • Lixia Zhang, Institute of Atmospheric Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, China
  • Kirsten Zickfeld, Simon Fraser University, Canada
