WASHINGTON, July 10, 2018 — Journalists who register for the American Chemical Society's (ACS') 256th National Meeting & Exposition in Boston will have access to more than 10,000 presentations on the meeting's theme, "Nanoscience, Nanotechnology & Beyond," and many more topics, including food, nutrition, medicine, health, energy and the environment. The meeting, one of the largest scientific conferences of the year, will be held Aug. 19-23 in Boston.

Staff and freelance journalists may apply for press credentials for this meeting at http://www.xpressreg.net/register/acsf0818/media/start.asp (see criteria below).

The theme of the meeting is "Nanoscience, Nanotechnology & Beyond," and a wide range of sessions will focus on breakthroughs in medicine, food, agriculture and other fields. Planned symposia include:

  • Nanomedicines: From Fundamentals to Applications
  • Diet, Health & Gut Microbiome
  • Polymer Science of Everyday Things
  • Synthetic Biology: The State of the Science
  • Precision Genome Engineering
  • Chemistry, Flavor & Health Effects of Teas
  • Confronting the Opioid Epidemic: Novel Treatments for Chronic Pain
  • Women in Nanotechnology
  • Citizen Science & Chemistry
  • Wearable & Implantable Sensors
  • USA-China Symposium on Energy

ACS provides complimentary registration to national meetings to reporters (staff and freelance) and public information officers at government, non-profit and educational institutions. Marketing and public relations professionals, lobbyists and scientists do not qualify as press and must register via the main meeting registration page. Journal managing editors, book commissioning editors, acquisitions editors, publishers and those who do not produce news for a publication or institution also do not qualify.

ACS will operate a press center in the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center, Room 102 A, Aug. 19 to 22. The press center will be fully staffed to assist in arranging interviews and will have Wi-Fi, computers and refreshments. Press conferences will be held in Room 102 B.

Embargoed copies of press releases and a press conference schedule will be available in early August.

Reporters planning to cover the meeting from their home bases will have access to the press conferences on YouTube at http://bit.ly/ACSLive_Boston2018.

Journalists also are invited to the ACS Kids Zone hands-on science event at the Boston Children's Museum on Saturday, Aug. 18, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. No registration is needed for journalists or families to come to this fun, free event.
