Georgetown Lombardi hosts patient/physician symposium focused on GI cancers

WASHINGTON (Nov. 29, 2016) – The Ruesch Center for the Cure of Gastrointestinal Cancers at Georgetown Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center hosts its 7th Annual "Fighting a Smarter War Against Cancer," a symposium for medical professionals, patients and advocates, Dec. 1-3, 2016.

WHAT: Fighting a Smarter War Against Cancer, a three-part symposium for medical professionals, patients and advocates.

WHEN & WHERE: Thursday, December 1
5:30 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.; Maggiano's Little Italy, Tyson's Corner
"GI Cancers 2016: Year in Review" will discuss the emerging field of molecular diagnostics and new therapies, including immune therapies, that are beginning to have impact on patient care.

Friday, December 2
9:30 a.m.- 10:30 a.m.; Georgetown University Hotel & Conference Center
Special Session: "Risk and Surveillance of Liver Cancer" looks to increase awareness of liver cancer and its risk factors

10:30 a.m.- 11:30 a.m.; Georgetown University Hotel & Conference Center
Special Session: "Young Adult Colorectal Cancer" will focus on the efforts to promote increased research and awareness among patients and physicians about the unique characteristics of early-onset CRC.

11:30 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.; Georgetown University Hotel & Conference Center
"Collaborative Cancer Care – A Multidisciplinary Approach" will include interactive sessions related to the multidisciplinary management of GI cancer care. Content will be presented in three tracks; Medical Oncology, Surgery/Radiation Oncology, and Nursing/Patient Advocacy with plenaries focusing on key areas of change in GI.

Saturday, December 3
8:30 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.; Georgetown University Hotel & Conference Center
This year's Patient Symposium will bring patients and families disease-specific information and education, tools for managing their cancer care, and engage them in a discussion of the promise of emerging therapeutic approaches in cancer care and the concerns related to understanding the growing array of treatment options.
