ESCEO-IOF Pierre Meunier Young Scientist Award presented to Dr. Emmanuel Biver

Emmanuel Biver MD, PhD, of the Division of Bone Diseases Geneva University Hospitals and Faculty of Medicine has been presented with the 2018 ESCEO-IOF Pierre Meunier Young Scientist Award. The joint award of the European Society for Clinical & Economic Aspects of Osteoporosis, Osteoarthritis and Musculoskeletal Diseases (ESCEO) and the International Osteoporosis Foundation (IOF) was awarded on April 22nd, at the World Congress on Osteoporosis, Osteoarthritis & Musculoskeletal Diseases, held in Kraków, Poland.

The Award recognizes a young investigator who has demonstrated outstanding scientific merit early in his or her career, prior to reaching a prominent academic position, and who is expected to be a future thought-leader in the musculoskeletal field.

Dr Biver completed medical training and specialization in rheumatology at the University of Lille 2, France. He obtained a PhD in medical sciences based on preclinical research on the regulation of signaling pathways in bone cells. He is currently consultant and in charge of clinical and translational research in the department of Bone Diseases at the University Hospital of Geneva, Switzerland. Dr Biver is the coordinator of the Geneva Retirees Cohort (GERICO), an ongoing prospective cohort investigating the determinants of bone fragility and sarcopenia with ageing. His specific interests are in the impact of nutrition or chronic metabolic or inflammatory conditions on bone microstructure and fracture risk.
