Dr Iasonas Triantis of City, University of London’s School of Science and Technology’s Research Centre for Biomedical Engineering is the Principal Investigator (PI) on the research project titled, SmartCare: HbA1c Self-Monitoring Technology, funded by a National Institute for Health Research (NiHR i4i Connect) grant valued at £150k, in partnership with Dr Michael Powner from City’s School of Health Sciences and Tape Specialities Limited (TSL).

The project will focus on the experimental validation of a diabetes diagnostic focusing on several blood biomarkers.

City researchers have also recently received £288.4k for an Innovate UK Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP), focusing on the design, development and assessment of an HbA1C sensor for the empowerment of diabetes patients – allowing them to better monitor their condition at home and encouraging them to comply with their therapeutic regime.

Both research projects are aimed at improving therapy compliance and offering a more insightful understanding into patient’s health conditions.
