Bounded Observer Resolution Suppresses Decoherence in Open Quantum Systems

A theoretical investigation has described a self-shielding mechanism in open quantum systems by coupling Lindblad dynamics with an interval Type-2 fuzzy observer model. The research, conducted by Kung-Ming Lan and published in Quantum Information Processing, evaluates how modeling the surrounding environment as an information-theoretic agent alters decoherence dynamics. To avoid conceptual ambiguities associated with physical measurement apparatuses, the environment is modeled as an information-theoretic agent characterized by bounded cognitive resolution.

Central to the mathematical structure is the formulation and expansion of the footprint of uncertainty, abbreviated as FOU. The study identifies a stability regime characterized by a stable steady state.

The comparative dynamics reveal that the protective phase depends directly on the system’s back-action strength, designated as k. As back-action strength increases, the observer’s reduced cognitive resolution significantly suppresses both the effective decoherence rate and the growth of Von Neumann entropy.

To test and evaluate this protective phase, the study performed extensive stochastic simulations comprising one thousand realizations alongside continuous crossover mapping. This offers a theoretical framework for understanding the quantum-to-classical transition in complex, high-noise environments. Because the findings are derived from mathematical modeling and stochastic simulations, the reported shielding effects represent a theoretical construct for open quantum dynamics rather than an experimentally observed physical apparatus.
