Bethesda, MD (Sept. 21, 2018) – The American Gastroenterological Association (AGA) is proud to partner with the European Society of Neurogastroenterology and Motility (ESNM) for the 8th annual Gut Microbiota for Health (GMFH) World Summit. This preeminent meeting on the gut microbiota will take place March 23 & 24, 2019, in Miami, Florida.

The 2019 Gut Microbiota for Health World Summit will present the latest evidence on the interaction between diet, nutrition and the gut microbiome. Health care professionals in attendance will learn how diet and nutrition through their effects on the gut microbiome are being used in concert with traditional therapies to manage GI disorders.

"Patients and the public are more curious about the gut microbiota than ever before, and the science is moving at a fast pace. Our program is designed to update attendees on the latest research and how lessons learned from the laboratory may translate to patient care. We hope that health care professionals across all disciplines — physicians, dietitians, nutritionists, advanced practice providers and researchers — will join us for an interdisciplinary discussion on the gut microbiota," said Gail A. Hecht, MD, MS, AGAF, co-chair of the 2019 GMFH scientific committee and chair of the AGA Center for Gut Microbiome Research and Education.

In addition to presentations by leading experts in the field, the Gut Microbiota for Health World Summit will feature novel abstracts on basic and clinical research related to the gut microbiome and its role in human health and disease.

###

The 2019 Gut Microbiota for Health World Summit is sponsored by AGA and ESNM, and the scientific committee is co-chaired by Gail Hecht, MD, MS, AGAF, (Loyola University Medical Center, Chicago, Illinois, U.S.) and Francisco Guarner, MD, PhD (Vall d'Hebron University Hospital, Barcelona, Spain). The summit is endorsed by the American Neurogastroenterology and Motility Society (ANMS) and European Society for Paediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition (ESPGHAN), and is made possible through support from Danone (the GMFH Founding Supporter) and Sanofi (Sustaining Supporter).
