Alexandria, Va., USA – The American Association for Dental Research, with funding from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), will host the AADR Oral Health Effects of Tobacco Products: Science and Regulatory Policy conference on Friday, September 14, 2018 in Bethesda, Maryland.

The conference aims to review the effects tobacco products have on oral health. Providing a robust scientific base that includes the importance of oral health in overall health will help formulate a research agenda that can further contribute to the FDA's regulatory process. Attendees will have an opportunity to engage with federal policymakers and scientists. Registration for this event is free, but you must register by August 31, 2018. Attendance is limited to 200 and registration is offered on a first-come/first-served basis.

Speakers include Mitch Zeller, Director of the FDA Center for Tobacco Products; Gregory Connolly, a tobacco control expert whose collaboration with late Senator Ted Kennedy culminated in the passage of the Family Smoking and Prevention Tobacco Control Act of 2009 and a cadre of tobacco and oral health researchers who will address topics such as the effect of tobacco products on the oral microbiome, flavoring and marketing of tobacco products and novel nicotine delivery systems like e-cigarettes. View the full list of speakers and topics here: http://www.iadr.org/AADREffectsofTobacco.

Funding for this conference is made possible, in part, by the Food and Drug Administration through grant (1R13FD006142). Views expressed in written materials or publications and by speakers and moderators do not necessarily reflect the official policies of the Department of Health and Human Services; nor does any mention of trade names, commercial practices, or organization imply endorsement by the United States Government.
