(Linköping University) The waste-disposal system in a cell can spread harmful protein aggregates between neurons in the brain in Alzheimer's disease, according to researchers at Linköping University, Sweden. The spread can be reduced in experiments in cultivated cells. The discovery, published in the prestigious scientific journal Acta Neuropathologica, may help the development of new diagnostic methods, and may eventually lead to new drugs that can stop or reduce the progression of disease.
