DALLAS, Feb. 10, 2016 — Today, Interstate Batteries announced a partnership with Physio-Control to provide original equipment manufacturer (OEM) automated external defibrillator (AED) batteries to the healthcare industry. The No. 1 cause of complaints to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) about AEDs is equipment failure related to replacement parts.

The batteries will be sold directly to hospitals through Interstate's more than 200 All Battery Centers located around the country. This partnership comes during American Heart Month when there is increased focus on the nation's leading cause of death – heart disease.

"Interstate provides a comprehensive catalog of batteries, and we're especially proud to now provide original batteries for defibrillators that can save lives," said Joe Padilla, National Sales Manager, Interstate All Battery Center. "Our partnership with Physio-Control means we can deepen existing customer relationships by delivering OEM peace of mind."

Defibrillators are important tools for providing a rapid response to victims of cardiac arrest, delivering an electric shock to the heart to restore its natural rhythm. While AED batteries have a lifespan of up to five years, healthcare providers and hospitals observe best practices by replacing them every two years, and most prefer to stay within the manufacturer's warranty by using OEM parts.

Today, there are about 2.4 million defibrillators located in public places nationwide including corporate buildings, universities, airports, school districts, entertainment venues, sports arenas and shopping malls.

Interstate All Battery Center works with more than 2,500 hospitals and health care facilities across the country as a local healthcare power expert, business consultant and the industry's most trusted business ally. The Company's "local partner, powerful solutions" practice and just-in-time inventory model will allow facilities to re-power their life-critical devices with OEM batteries within just 24 hours. Services also include free recycling and delivery, in addition to full local warranty support.

Physio-Control developed the prototype DC defibrillator for medical devices used by emergency medical services and hospitals worldwide as the world leader in professional emergency medical response solutions that predict or intervene in life-threatening emergencies.
