Watching wildlife can make more money for more people than killing it. But the planet is becoming ever-more crowded with humans and there is a dwindling pool of wildlife to view. The heritage on which ecotourism depends will be worth its weight in gold in the urbanized future of the twenty-first century. This book provides guidelines on how to protect wild animals by enhancing the positive effects of ecotourism and minimizing the negatives. The authors synthesise the current research evidence and highlight the gaps in our knowledge. A separate chapter focuses on local communities, whose quality of life needs to benefit too.
