New Rochelle, NY, February 1, 2016–Nanette K. Wenger, MD, Professor of Medicine (Cardiology) Emeritus, Emory University School of Medicine (Atlanta, GA), provides a comprehensive perspective on how to apply the many new and continuously updated guidelines for preventing cardiovascular disease (CVD) and reducing CVD risk factors in women, in a clear and concise Review article published in Journal of Women's Health, a peer-reviewed publication from Mary Ann Liebert, Inc., publishers. The article is available free on the Journal of Women's Health website until March 1, 2016.

In "Juggling Multiple Guidelines: A Woman's Heart in the Balance," Dr. Wenger presents a hands-on, prudent approach that she uses in her clinical practice to evaluate, monitor, and treat patients. She describes the basic guidelines on which she relies, including those of the American Heart Association and American College of Cardiology, noting how they have been modified and updated in recent years. Dr. Wenger presents her approach to risk stratification and screening for risk factors. In the Review article she also addresses risk factors unique to or predominant in women, and specifically deals with lifestyle management issues, as well as therapies to control blood pressure and cholesterol, for example.

"This very practical review by Dr. Wenger provides excellent guidance to clinicians in the evaluation and management of risk factors for cardiovascular disease in women," says Susan G. Kornstein, MD, Editor-in-Chief of Journal of Women's Health, Executive Director of the Virginia Commonwealth University Institute for Women's Health, Richmond, VA, and President of the Academy of Women's Health.
