Oxford University Press launches new journal, Insect Systematics and Diversity

Oxford University Press and the Entomological Society of America (ESA) are pleased to announce the launch of a new journal, Insect Systematics and Diversity (ISD). With the publication of its first issue on October 25, ISD joins ESA's portfolio of eight other journals. The journal is led by Co-Editors-in-Chief Dr. Sydney A. Cameron and Dr. James B. Whitfield, both professors at the University of Illinois.

"ISD provides a home for excellent research and discussion across the diverse subdisciplines that constitute modern insect systematics studies. Integration and collaboration define the evolutionary fields today, and systematics is among the most integrative, including taxonomy, comparative morphology, paleobiology, development, behavior, phylogenetics, genomics, biogeography, and phylogeography–both empirical and theoretical. Most journals today specialize in one or several of these areas, but we will embrace all of them, under a unifying standard of excellence," said Cameron. The journal also welcomes articles that utilize novel technologies or data types or describe emerging methods of research.

ISD is online-only and subscription-based. As an online-only journal, ISD publishes papers in a variety of lengths, from short communications, to reviews of current topics, to revisions of up to 200 pages. ESA members are exempt from page charges when publishing in the journal. As the journal is online-only, all color figures are free to publish.

"We're delighted to be launching Insect Systematics and Diversity with the Entomological Society of America. Analysis of the field and feedback from the community showed that this journal is a much-needed resource that has been missing, so we're very pleased to partner with ESA to fill that space and provide a dedicated publishing venue for everyone working on the systematics, evolution, and biodiversity of insects and related arthropods. We're all very excited to see the result of a lot of hard work come to fruition as we launch the first issue," said Fiona Williams, publisher at Oxford University Press.
