The American College of Chest Physicians (CHEST) recently heralded a pivotal advancement in the dissemination and recognition of critical care medicine research. Their journal, CHEST Critical Care, has achieved inclusion in the highly esteemed Web of Science Core Collection through the Emerging Sources Citation Index (ESCI). This development marks a substantial elevation in the journal’s visibility and academic stature within the international medical and scientific community. The indexing not only amplifies the journal’s accessibility but also sets the stage for its inaugural Impact Factor, anticipated in mid-2026 for the year 2025, a metric critically evaluated by professionals for assessing research influence.

Indexation in the Web of Science Core Collection represents more than just an administrative milestone; it is an emblem of quality and scientific contribution. The ESCI serves as a gateway for emerging journals to transition into principal citation indices, thus enhancing the discoverability of vital research outputs. The inclusion of CHEST Critical Care ensures that cutting-edge studies investigating acute and critical care interventions, pathophysiological insights, and clinical outcomes are more readily accessible to multidisciplinary teams across clinical, academic, and research settings worldwide.

The Web of Science is a globally acknowledged platform, pivotal for rigorous scholarly research discovery and citation analysis. Present in this repository, CHEST Critical Care leverages the comprehensive indexing into a much wider academic audience, enabling clinicians, researchers, and policy-makers to engage with high-impact studies and evidence-based practices that can profoundly influence patient management in intensive care units (ICUs) and emergency medicine scenarios.

This significant achievement is particularly timely as it dovetails with the journal’s strategic playout to enhance its footprint in international indexing platforms. Just recently, in April 2025, CHEST Critical Care was incorporated into Scopus, another colossal abstract and citation database renowned for its extensive coverage of peer-reviewed literature. This dual-index recognition consolidates the journal’s reputation and demonstrates the robust quality of its scholarly contributions within the specialty of critical care medicine.

Dr. Hayley Gershengorn, MD, FCCP, the Editor in Chief of CHEST Critical Care, emphasized the profound dedication and collaborative effort that propelled the journal to this eminent status. The editorial vision has always been to curate and disseminate content that is not only methodologically
