The Gabriella Miller Kids First Data Resource Center (Kids First DRC) announces the release of an upgraded Kids First Data Resource Portal, designed to streamline big data search and data analysis. Accessible at portal.kidsfirstdrc.org, the new portal represents a significant advancement in data accessibility, user experience, and collaborative potential with researchers, families, and patients.

Elevated User Experience

Introducing several key enhancements, the new Kids First DRC Portal prioritizes user-centric design to boost the overall research experience. It offers a unified interface, streamlining navigation and accessibility to diverse datasets. Improvements to the updated Kids First DRC Portal include:

  • Optimized User Interface
Intuitive design for improved navigation and user experience.
  • Advanced Search Functionality
Upgraded search capabilities with added filters and sorting options for easier information retrieval.
  • Customizable Dashboard
Personalized dashboard allowing users to customize their view and access relevant data quickly.
  • Improved Annotations
Predict the consequences of genomic variants on pediatric conditions with new and updated annotations.
  • Searchable Ontologies
Identify patients by condition using searchable disease and phenotype ontologies.

Seamless Integration of Diverse Data

The new portal’s architecture enables seamless integration of additional genomic datasets beyond Kids First, which may be of interest to investigators studying pediatric conditions. The first is the genomic data from the Children’s Brain Tumor Network (CBTN). This holistic approach fosters cross-disciplinary research and enriched insights into the genetic landscape underlying pediatric disease, ultimately improving outcomes for thousands of children.

“It is a pivotal moment for pediatric research to launch the Kids First DRC Portal,” says David Higgins, Informatics Program Manager at Kids First DRC, “Our goal is to empower researchers in pediatric oncology and congenital disorders by integrating data seamlessly.”

About Kids First Data Resource Center

The Kids First DRC provides high-quality datasets and collaborative tools to accelerate pediatric research. The program fosters data sharing and collaboration to improve outcomes for children with cancer and congenital disorders. Created in 2014, Kids First DRC develops AI-ready data cloud resources to empower research across pediatric conditions, including children’s cancer and congenital disorders. Kids First DRC focuses on kids, with genomes of 27,000+ children and their families released to the public. Supported by the NIH Common Fund under award number U2CHL138346.
