IOP Publishing (IOPP) has appointed Dr. David Gevaux as the first Chief Editor of Reports on Progress in Physics. Taking up the post from the 4th of September, Dr. Gevaux will lead on ambitious plans for the journal, as its scope expands to include groundbreaking new research content alongside the authoritative reviews for which it is well known across all areas of physics.

Working closely with Professor Subir Sachdev, the Editor in Chief of Reports on Progress in Physics, Dr. Gevaux will champion the editorial and strategic development of the journal in positioning it at the pinnacle of IOPP’s broad portfolio of journals across the physical sciences.

He brings a wealth of publishing experience and knowledge of the physics research landscape to IOPP having held a range of scientific editing and leadership roles at Springer Nature over the last seventeen years where he led on the strategic and editorial development of titles across the physical science programme. Dr. Gevaux qualified in physics at The University of Manchester before completing his PhD on the topic of “Spectroscopic Mid-Infrared Light-Emitting Diodes” at Imperial College London.

Commenting on his appointment Dr. David Gevaux, said: “I’m honoured to be given the chance to help realise the vision for IOPP’s most renowned physics journal. As physics touches upon almost every aspect of our lives, I can’t think of anything more rewarding than expanding the journal’s prestige by supporting the highest quality research that impacts our perception of the world around us and ensuring it reaches as many people who might benefit from it.”

IOPP’s Head of Portfolio Development, Dr. Tim Smith, said: “Dr. Gevaux’s editorial experience, clear alignment with our mission, and strong commitment to IOPP’s vision to position Reports on Progress in Physics at the top of our extensive physics portfolio are what makes him the ideal person to realise our ambition. As the journal heads into a new and exciting phase, I look forward to working with both our new Chief Editor and our Editor in Chief to build on the well-established reputation of Reports on Progress in Physics.”

Authors publishing their work in Reports on Progress in Physics can now choose to make their research openly available for anyone to read and benefit from an enhanced package of bespoke publishing and promotional services to maximise the reach and impact of their work.

IOP Publishing endorses equal opportunities for everyone to contribute to physical science. IOP Publishing will support researchers based in low income and lower middle-income countries whose work is accepted for publication in Reports on Progress in Physics by covering their article publication charges, enabling open access to their articles. Authors also have the option to submit their papers for double anonymous and transparent peer review. In the spirit of transparency and reproducibility, authors publishing in the journal are encouraged to share data and code where appropriate for the benefit of the research community.
