SNU College of Engineering (Dean Kookheon Char) announced on November 26 that Professor Kyoung Mu Lee of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering has been selected as the most highly honored Fellow Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) this month.

The IEEE is the world’s leading professional association for advancing technology for humanity. Through its 400,000 plus members in 160 countries, the association is a leading authority on a wide variety of areas ranging from aerospace systems, computers, and telecommunications to biomedical engineering, electric power, and consumer electronics. IEEE Fellow is the highest grade of membership and is recognized by the technical community as a prestigious honor and an important career achievement. Only those members of IEEE that have achieved research and technical achievements within the highest 0.1% are selected as a Fellow Member.

Professor Kyoung Mu Lee completed his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Control and Instrumentation engineering at Seoul National University and earned his Ph. D. degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Southern California (USC) with the Korean Government Overseas Scholarship. Prof. Lee joined the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Seoul National University as a professor in September 2003 and has conducted education and research in artificial intelligence and computer vision. Professor Lee, a leading scholar in the field of artificial intelligence in Korea, has been recognized as a world-class researcher for his outstanding academic achievements and services including the general chair of ICCV2019 and AEIC (Associate Editor-in-Chief) of the IEEE TPAMI, the world’s top AI journal. Based on these achievements, he was awarded the Scientist and Engineer of the Month Award, the Hong-jo Medal of Merit Award from the Korean government, and the Academic Research and Education Award from Seoul National University.
