From June 21 to June 26, the International Summer School-Conference “Advanced Problems in Mechanics” (APM-online) will be held online. The conference is organized by the Institute of Applied Mathematics and Mechanics of Peter the Great St.Petersburg Polytechnic University (SPbPU) together with the Institute for Problems in Mechanical Engineering of the Russian Academy of Sciences (IPME RAS) with the support of the Russian Academy of Sciences and GazpromNeft STC.

The conference “Advanced Problems in Mechanics” is held since 1971 and has a rich history. During the years of APM existence, hundreds of outstanding scientists from all over the world took part in the event, many industrial problems were solved, dozens of creative teams were created and carried out joint research and issued scientific articles. The main purpose of the conference “Advanced Problems in Mechanics” was always the solution of the basic theoretical and applied problems in mechanics. For this reason, year on year, the organizers create an efficient infrastructure and all conditions for convenient interaction of scientists, an exchange of experience and knowledge, as it all has a strategic value for the development of this area.

That is why, in spite of the pandemic and related difficulties, the organizers decided to hold the conference in summer, at the usual time for participants, and put it online. The offline 48th International Summer School-Conference “Advanced Problems in Mechanics” will be held in November 2020, traditionally hosted by SPbPU.

The program of the online conference includes plenary lectures and discussions, poster sessions and 11 mini-symposiums organized by leading scientists in the following areas: nano and micromechanics, biomechanics, nonlinear dynamics, heat and wave propagation, materials science, geomechanics, oil and gas industry, astrophysics, etc. There will also be a traditional young scientists’ section for students, based on the results of which the abstracts will be published in scientific collections of Springerpublishing house, that are indexed in Scopus. The organizers are also preparing cultural program: this year the conference participants will have an interactive excursion “Engineering Petersburg”.

Among the speakers of APM-online are scientists and professors in mechanics and related fields from all over the world. Presentations and lectures will be given by Herbert HUPPERT (University of Cambridge), Wolfgang MÜLLER (Technical University of Berlin), Francesco DELL’ISOLA (Sapienza University of Rome), Holm ALTENBACH (Otto-von-Guericke University Magdeburg), Giuseppe SACCOMANDI (University of Perugia), Julius KAPLUNOV (Keele University), academicians of the Russian Academy of Sciences Irina GORYACHAEVA, Mikhail GUZEV, etc.

The International Summer School-Conference “Advanced Problems in Mechanics” will be held online via ZOOM meeting platform. You can take part in the conference as a speaker, participant of mini-symposium or poster session, listener, or student. Participation is free for listeners and students. Registration for the event and a detailed program are available on the conference website.
