On February 6-7, 2020 Peter the Great St.Petersburg Polytechnic University (SPbPU) holds the “Polytech Days in Berlin 2020” devoted to the 120 years anniversary since the foundation. The forum is organized within the Russian-German Year of Scientific and Educational Partnerships 2018-2020. Within this event SPbPU in cooperation with European partners will present promising research and innovation projects and opportunities for bilateral investment, based on successful cases of many years of cooperation.

Europe is a strategic region for SPbPU since the foundation of the university in 1899. At the very beginning teaching at the first Polytechnic University of Russia was conducted in three languages – German, Russian and English. And looking at the facade of the main building of the Polytechnic University you can find the features of the historical main building of the Technical University of Berlin. For over 100 years, the Polytechnic University has been developing cooperation with Europe. Currently SPbPU has partnerships with over 500 educational, research and industrial organizations, including leading global companies: Siemens AG, Festo Holding GmbH, AIRBUS, Philips GmbH, Robert Bosch GmbH, Kawasaki, Boeing, SAP AG etc.

Germany is the initiator of the concept “Industry 4.0”. The European community has adopted this concept as the main vector of development. The concept implies the introduction of cyberphysical systems, additive technologies and robotics into manufacturing process. In Russia, these approaches to modern manufacturing were formulated in the framework of the National Technology Initiative strategy. One of the key players in the strategy has been the Polytechnic University. In a consortium with over 60 high-tech companies the Polytech has become the Russian leader in the development of unique manufacturing technologies and designs for the largest high-tech enterprises. SPbPU competencies provide for the development of world-class equipment (aircraft, cars, engines and vessels).

Within the framework of the “Polytech Days in Berlin 2020” faculty members of the Polytechnic will present projects on digital designing and modeling of globally competitive new generation products using advanced manufacturing technologies in various sectors of high-tech industry. Particular emphasis will be given to the joint research and educational projects of the Polytechnic University with key partner universities, such as Leibniz University Hannover, TU Berlin, the University of Stuttgart, City, University of London, Ecole Polytechnique, Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus-Senftenberg, TU Hamburg etc. SPbPU carries out cooperation with partner institutions in the fields of new materials, nanotechnology, energy, telecommunications technology, radiophysics and electronics, biomedicine and biotechnology, etc. Participants of the event will discuss the possibilities of collaboration within the framework of strategic partnership: invited professors program, joint laboratories supervised by leading scientists (megagrant), DAAD scholarships for researchers, grants from Russian and European research foundations for conducting joint research. In addition, forum guests may be interested in new win-win formats of internationalization (experience of cooperation between SPbPU and European partners).

As well, within the framework of the event the European Forum of Alumni of Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University will take place.
